Ultimate Guide to Yakitori Around the Meguro Station!

Meguro, which has a station on the Yamanote Line, is a beautiful area to stroll around. It's a popular spot for sakura viewing in spring and ranks among the most pleasant places to live in, in Tokyo. If you go there, you might want to check out the yakitori restaurants. It has some of the top-rated places in the city! Here is a list you should remember!

Feel free to follow favy!

Torishiki is a yakitori restaurant unlike any other! It has earned a Michelin star for bringing yakitori to the level of a culinary art. This place is extremely popular so reservations as much as 2 months in advance might be necessary to guarantee yourself a seat at this elegant restaurant. There is no fix menu here, instead, the chef charcoal-grills in front of you his omakase selection (omakase means to leave it to the chef). He will first check if you have any preferences. Prices start at 5,000 yen for the omakase. Order your drink first at a separate cost and sip on your drink while the chef grills to perfection one by one your yakitori skewers. Possibly the best you will ever have! Counter seats only.

Yakitori Abe

Yakitori Abe is a yakitori restaurant on the expensive side. Expect to pay about 6,000 to 8,000 yen per person for dinner. You do get amazing quality, however! Single skewers start at 270 yen. You can ask for the chef's omakase here as well. The interesting thing to try is the "chochin", or lantern, which is a chicken skewer with an egg yolk attached to it (see picture below). The chicken is said to be very tender and succulent. The decor is quite stylish and there are counter seats and two tables.

Another awesome place for yakitori near the Meguro Station! You'll definitely see a difference in the taste here because they use a variety of free-range chicken from Aomori prefecture. The resto is quite spacious with 60 seats, including a nice counter area and semi-private rooms. There isn't just yakitori here, you can also have a cheap lunch of oyako don (chicken and eggs on a bed of rice) in which the same chicken of exceptional quality is used. The chicken is so fresh that it can even be eaten raw (chicken sashimi is a Japanese delicacy).

This is the place to go for great taste at an affordable price. You can get a nice assortment of yakitori and a drink or two for under 3,000 yen. Most skewers are between 200 and 300 yen and drinks are about 400 to 500 yen. The good quality ingredients are slowly charcoal-grilled by experienced yakitori chefs. Toriyoshi has a traditional yakitori izakaya atmosphere and decor. The place is very popular so it might get crowded. You can make a reservation.

Torihiko is a bit of a secluded restaurant located on the basement floor of the Meguro Business Mansion Building. Nonetheless it's quite worth the visit as the restaurant has great reviews for its delicious yakitori and warm, classy atmosphere. Everything here is shio-yaki (grilled with salt). This is unusual as most places have a soy-based tare sauce for the grilling. Nonetheless, the food is delectable because of the high quality of the ingredients. You should probably order the Torihiki course set (shown below) for 3,500 yen which also includes a drink!

Be sure to check out some other nice restaurants of a different cuisine style in Meguro! The place has a lot to offer.
