Ashikaga Flower Park: Wisteria Flowers Of Unearthly Beauty

This park has wisteria trees and "tunnels" of unearthly beauty when the flowers are in full bloom (pictures in this article!). Illuminations and other flowers are also a thing to see all year-round!

Feel free to follow favy!

Ashikaga Flower Park

The flower park is one of the most famous in the country, and for good reasons! You get to see a scene of almost unimaginable beauty: old and majestic wisteria trees in full bloom. The best season to visit it for the wisteria flowers is from mid-April to mid-May.
The tree pictured above is approximately 150 years old! And notice how the branches are supported by a grid system so that they grow out horizontally. Typical Japanese craftsmanship.
Walking underneath these blooming trees is something surreal!
You'll see these in Japanese parks sometimes, but nothing compares to the beauty of the ones at Ashikaga Flower Park!
There are literally tunnels of wisteria flowers of different colors you can walk through. How magical is that!?
And the wisteria trees are lit up at night too. The night scenery is equally as amazing as the daytime one, if not more.

Other Times Of Year To Visit

The main attraction of the park are the wisteria trees in bloom, but other times of year are not without interest! These illuminations are displayed during the winter season.
During different periods of the year, you'll get to see different types of flowers. Refer to the link below to know about the eight floral seasons of the garden.
The wisteria trees are pretty amazing even when they aren't in bloom too!

How To Get There From Tokyo

The park is located in the Tochigi Prefecture. From Tokyo, it takes about 100 min to get there by train and costs about ¥2,000.

Leaving from the Tokyo Station, take the Keihin Tohoku Line to Ueno. From Ueno, transfer to the Airport Rapid Train Express Train to Oyama. From Oyama, transfer to the JR Ryomo Line to the Tomita Station and you will be within a walking distance to the park.
