Earth Day Tokyo (Yoyogi Park)
Tokyo has its own celebration for Earth Day and the place to be is in Yoyogi Park in Shibuya. The 2018 edition will be on the 21st and 22nd of April. The nearest station to the event is the JR Harajuku Station.
What is the event about?
Earth Day is an international celebration that has its official date on April 22nd. The main theme is environmental protection. In Yoyogi Park's festival, this translates into many NPOs joining together and providing information about their cause. If you are interested in the field or would like to get involved in an environmental cause it's a nice opportunity that you should seize!
What's happening at the event?
The event is popular among the youth of Japan. Earth Day has a festive vibe and you'll find a plethora of food stalls in Yoyogi Park for the occasion.
So once you're done visiting the information booths, make sure to grab some of your favorite Japanese festival foods. You'll find the common things such as takoyaki and yakisoba. But you should also find some uncommon options for Japan, such as stalls serving vegetarian cuisine.
Or awesome loaves of bread that are true works of art. Where else can you can a bread with "no nukes" written on the crust?
Food is not the only thing you can get. There are all kinds of fair trade products as well. How about some artisan sandals?
Beauty products are also popular. You can get some surprising rarities such as this Tibetan herbal cream.
And of course, there will be alcohol! The event is a joyful celebration of spring as well. The sakura flowers will have fallen, but the weather will be getting warmer in Tokyo, so Earth Day is the perfect occasion to celebrate outdoors. From then, there are almost weekly festival-like events held at Yoyogi Park.
There is also a free concert, so enjoy the music and the awesome atmosphere of Earth Day in Tokyo!
