Discover Ota Wholesale Fruit And Flower Market In Tokyo

Ota Wholesale Market is the largest market in Japan. It's open to the public and free. You'll be blown away by the sheer size and bustle of this place.

Feel free to follow favy!

Ota Wholesale Market

The Toyosu Fish Market (formally Tsukiji) is a well-known wholesale trading center in Japan that is very interesting to visit, but the lesser known, yet bigger, Ota Wholesale Market is also a place that is worth the visit.

The Ota Market is where most of the fruits and flowers are traded in Japan. Much like Toyosu, the place is for trading professionals but it is also open to the public. There are daily tours of the market that allow you to see all the action that takes place inside. It's actually quite impressive!

You have to get there early in the morning to see the auctions which start at around 7:00 AM and last about an hour.
Flower trade is an important part of the market. You can walk through the market and see the impressive displays of countless wholesalers.
Fruit trade is the other important activity happening at the market. Prior to the auctions, potential buyers walk through the displays and decide which item they want to bid on based on the appearance of the fruit and the displayed sugar content.
There is also a seafood product section, which means you can enjoy super fresh sashimi at one of the markets many restaurants.
