Katsuzen for Tonkatsu You'll Never Forget About!

Katsuzen is the only restaurant to serve Japanese fried pork cutlets and to be awarded a Michelin star. This is a quite typical home cooked meal, but what sets it apart to the point of getting a Michelin Star?

Katsuzen

Katsuzen is a restaurant specialized in tonkatsu (とんかつ), which is panko-friend pork cutlets. The pork loin is so incredibly tender and flavorful, in fact, so much so that is was awarded a Michelin Star. Quite incredible for such an affordable restaurant, isn't it?

This Ginza-based restaurant is family-owned and the owner makes his own panko. They only offer 8 seats and a private dining area. The restaurant is located close to Ginza station.
Katsuzen serves tonkatsu, which is basically just deep fried pork coated with panko. So what makes this place so special?
Well, it's about all the elements coming together so harmoniously. From the authentic atmosphere of a family-owned business to the perfect cooking time. Without forgetting, of course, all the tastes coming together so wonderfully.
A lot of Michelin restaurants are reticent to welcome foreigners, as the staff does not speak English and it makes for a less enjoyable dining experience if you don't know what you're eating.
However, at Katsuzen the staff speaks English well so you don't have to worry about any of that! However, the restaurant has a policy of only accepting reservations from the customer who will actually be dining there, so you'll need to make a reservation on your own.

Menu

The signature dish is, of course, the tonkatsu, and you can choose between two varieties: Kurobuta (Black pig) or the chef's selection. Some people say it is worth paying the small difference to get the kurobuta, since taste-wise, it's even better.
If you're worried about blowing your travel budgets by trying out a Michelin restaurant, well, that's completely understandable! But Katsuzen is surprisingly affordable. What is more, if you go for lunch, you can get a full set meal between ¥4,000-¥5,000!
Dinner is around ¥15,000 per person so the difference is quite notable, on the other hand, the ambience is quite distinct.

Finally...

You've surely already had tonkatsu at a Japanese restaurant in your hometown or at a restaurant in Tokyo, but having it here will be a mind-opening experience! This Michelin-starred restaurant is evidently delicious, be sure to make your way there!
