5 Places to have a Delicious Sukiyaki Experience In Osaka

Sukiyaki, one of the popular Japanese cuisines is consisted of thin sliced beef cooked with lots of vegetables in a cast iron pan, and you dip ingredients into beaten raw egg before you eat. Interestingly, sukiyaki differs in Kanto (eastern part of Japan where Tokyo is located) and Kansai (western part of Japan where Osaka is) region. There are many restaurants that you can have delicious Kansai's sukiyaki experience in Osaka, so check the following places!

What's so special about Osaka's sukiyaki?

The big difference between sukiyaki in Kansai and Kanto is the ingredients for the flavor and the way its cooked.

In Kanto region, usually people boil vegetables and beef with warishita, which is consisted of soy sauce, mirin (sweet sake seasoning), cooking sake, sugar and water.
On the other hand, in Kansai region, it is common to grill meat first, add flavor using soy sauce and sugar, and then put vegetables and boil. They don't use warishita, and instead they balance the flavor using water or cooking sake.

Nabeya (なべや)

Just a 3 minute walk from Imaike station, this place is unbelievable. The amount of the meat is unbelievable, and its price is unbelievably cheap, and it is just simply amazing. You get this much for only ¥680! Usually people eat sukiyaki using beef meat, but they also have chicken and pork sukiyaki. They also have other nabe (a hot pot dish) menu, and their oyster nabe is worth checking out too.

Kitamura (北むら)

Established 136 years ago, this place offers traditional Kansai-style sukiyaki! People generally spend ¥10,000~14,999 for dinner, which is reasonable for the quality of beef you get to eat. Very famous among people in Osaka, you will have probably the best sukiyaki experience in Shinsaibashi area, and you won't regret. In fact, it would make you want to come back again! Around a 7 minute walk from Shinsaibashi station.

Harijyu (はり重)

If you ask people in Osaka where to eat sukiyaki, most of them will mention this place's name. It's that famous, and their sukiyaki must be beyond amazing. It might not be the cheapest place to have sukiyaki, but it is definitely worth it. Just a 3 minute walk from No.14 exit of Namba station.

Moritaya (モリタ屋 ルクアイーレ店)

Located at a very accessible building, Lucua 1100, right next to JR Osaka station, Moritaya has originally opened in Kyoto around 148 years ago. If you want to eat exclusive sukiyaki, this place is where you should go!
Their lunch menu is available at a reasonable price, and they offer unlimited refill for rice, which is very appealing.

Hirai (焼鳥 ひらい)

Just a 7 minute walk from Higashi Umeda station, this restaurant is specialized in chicken cuisine! Which means, they serve chicken sukiyaki. Their chicken sukiyaki is very unique, it has a chicken's head and legs. People generally spend ¥3,000~3,999 here. You can have a satisfying and unique sukiyaki experience at Hirai!
