Miyajima Island is one of the most scenic spots in Japan, and is known as the island of Gods. There is a shuttle bus to get to Miyajima from Hiroshima Airport(48 minutes) , but you can also take the train (30 minutes) or by ferry (10 minutes).

The temples and shrines in Miyajima combines the two religions of Buddhism and Shintoism. Miyajima is most famous for the great Torii, which was first constructed in 1168. This torii, as well as the entire Itsukushima shrine is a world cultural heritage from 1996. The admission fee for the Itsukushima shrine is 300 yen per person, and is open from 6:30 am to around 6:00pm, but the closing time changes depending of the season, so make sure to check the website beforehand.

Inside Miyajima, there are also aquariums, as well as other shrines and temples such as Daiganji, Toyokuni Shrine and more.
There are so many beautiful things to look at in Miyajima, so a half-day or one day tour is recommended.

Tempura Tsukunejima

Tempura Tsukunejima is located on the street between Itsukushima shrine and the aquarium. You can see the beautiful view of the great Torii while enjoying good tempura and tempura bowls. Daruma No Hashou

Daruma No Hasshou is a okonomiyaki restaurant located 5 minutes away from the Itsukushima shrine. You can enjoy local Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki at this restaurant.
