Tonki - The BEST And Traditional Tonkatsu Experience

Have you ever tried Tonkatsu? It is a deep fried pork cutlet, one of the most popular Japanese dish you should try. The best place to eat tonkatsu is the long-established restaurant called "Tonki" in Meguro, Tokyo. Here is a guide to Tonki you should read before you visit!

Feel free to follow favy!

Tonki (とんき)

Tonki is one of the most famous tonkatsu restaurants in Japan. Located 3 minutes walk from Meguro station, the restaurant was established in 1939 and has been serving the best tonkatsu to everyone, from young to old ever since then. Another great thing is that the delicious tonkatsu is reasonably-priced!
What is exciting about Tonki is there is an open kitchen and you can enjoy watching the chefs cooking the tonkatsu perfectly. They also have tables on the 2nd floor, but I recommend you to wait in a line and get the counter seats. The waiting line can be long but it is in the restaurant, so you can watch the kitchen (and people eating the tonkastu that looks so good...) while you are waiting.

Menu

They offer three kinds of "teishoku", a Japanese-style set meal in Japanese. The most popular menu is the pork loin cultet teishoku (1900 yen). The thick pork cutlet is incredibly juicy and tender that is coated with crispy panko (bread crumbles). The other two teishoku are pork fillet cutlet and "kushikatsu" (tonkatsu on a stick). All teishoku comes with shredded cabbage (free refills), a side of pickled vegetables, a bowl of rice, and miso soup.
There is a mustard paste on the side and also tonkatsu sauce (sweet and savory sauce) on the table so you add a kick to the dish. They really go well with the tonkatsu, but make sure not to put too much!
You can get a bottle of Japanese famous beer too.

Must-visit restaurant in Tokyo!

Just give it a try, and you will have a incredible tonkatsu experience ever!
